Services and Specialties
I provide individual therapy for adolescents and adults (14+) who are Deaf, hard of hearing, or ASL users seeking mental health support in person or via telehealth. Telehealth sessions are conducted via secure, HIPAA-compliant video portal throughout Louisiana and South Carolina. In-person sessions are available at my Metairie office for local clients.
How I Work With Clients
I use proven therapeutic methods tailored to each client's unique needs:
Understanding Your Thoughts and Feelings - We'll explore how your thoughts influence your emotions and behaviors, helping you recognize patterns that may be holding you back and develop healthier ways of thinking.
Connecting With All Parts of Yourself - I help you understand the different aspects of your personality and inner experience, fostering self-compassion and helping you heal from within.
Building Practical Life Skills - Together we'll develop concrete tools for managing difficult emotions, improving communication, and handling life's challenges with greater confidence.
Shifting Your Perspective - Learning to see situations in new ways can transform obstacles into opportunities and help you discover your own strength and resilience.
Areas of Focus
I specialize in helping clients navigate challenges that are often intensified by the unique experiences of Deaf individuals:
Anxiety & Depression - Living in a hearing world can create constant stress from communication barriers, misunderstandings, and feeling excluded. We'll work together to develop coping strategies that honor your experience and build emotional resilience.
Relationship Issues - Language barriers with hearing family members, friends, or partners can create deep frustration and miscommunication. We'll focus on improving relationships, setting healthy boundaries, and building stronger connections both within and outside the Deaf community.
Life Transitions - Major changes like career shifts, moving, or loss can be especially challenging when support systems don't fully understand Deaf culture or communication needs. I'll help you navigate these transitions while maintaining your cultural identity.
Isolation & Loneliness - Many Deaf individuals experience profound isolation, especially in areas with limited Deaf community or when surrounded primarily by hearing people. We'll work on building meaningful connections and addressing the unique aspects of Deaf loneliness.
Abandonment & Attachment Issues - Early experiences of communication disconnection with hearing family members or feeling "left out" can create lasting attachment wounds. Together we'll heal these patterns and develop secure, healthy relationships.
My Therapeutic Philosophy
My approach centers on independent thinking and empowerment. I believe every person has the inner wisdom and strength to create positive change in their life. My role is to provide you with tools, support, and a safe space to explore your thoughts and feelings, while helping you develop confidence in your own decision-making abilities.
Working directly in ASL eliminates communication barriers, allowing for deeper therapeutic connection and more effective treatment. You deserve therapy that honors your language, culture, and unique perspective as a Deaf individual.
