Frequently Asked Questions
How does telehealth therapy work ?
We meet for sessions through a secure, HIPAA-compliant video platform. You'll receive a link to join our session from your computer, tablet, or smartphone. All you need is a reliable internet connection and a device with a camera.
Is telehealth therapy confidential?
Absolutely. All sessions are conducted through HIPAA-compliant platforms, and I follow the same strict confidentiality standards as in-person therapy. Your privacy and information are completely protected.
What if I have technical problems during our session?
Technical issues happen sometimes. If we get disconnected, I'll call or text you right away to reconnect. We can always reschedule if technical problems prevent us from having a productive session - you won't be charged for time lost to technical difficulties.
Will we really communicate directly in ASL, or will there be an interpreter?
IWe communicate directly in ASL - no interpreter needed! This creates a much deeper therapeutic connection and eliminates the communication barriers you may have experienced with other therapists.
What are your rates?
Sessions are $125 for 50 minutes, with sliding scale options available from $70 based on need. Payment can be made through the secure client portal.
How do I schedule my first appointment?
Contact me via email at lisa@lemastercounselingservices.org or text/call 504-208-1993. We'll discuss your needs and schedule your first session at a time that works for you.
What's your cancellation policy?
Please give at least 48 hours notice if you need to cancel. Cancellations with less than 48 hours notice will be charged the full session rate unless we can reschedule within the same week.
Is telehealth therapy as effective as in-person therapy?
Yes! Research shows telehealth therapy is just as effective as in-person sessions. For Deaf clients, it can actually be more effective because we communicate directly in ASL without the barriers of finding and coordinating interpreters.
Do I need any special equipment or software?
Just a device with a camera and microphone (computer, tablet, or smartphone) and reliable internet. The video platform works through your web browser - no downloads required.
What if someone else is in my home during sessions?
It's important to find a private space where you feel comfortable speaking openly. We can discuss strategies for ensuring privacy in your home environment.
What if I'm more comfortable using some spoken English along with ASL?
I'm flexible and will communicate in whatever way feels most comfortable for you, whether that's pure ASL, simultaneous communication, or a mix of both.
Do you accept insurance?
I don't currently accept insurance, but I can provide a "super bill" that you can submit to your insurance for possible reimbursement of out-of-network benefits. I'm working to begin accepting insurance soon.
What should I expect in my first session?
We'll spend time getting to know each other, discussing what brings you to therapy, and setting goals for our work together. I'll also answer any questions you have about the therapy process.
Still have questions?**
Feel free to contact me with any other questions. I'm happy to discuss how therapy can help you and whether we'd be a good fit for working together.
